The Combined Communications Center Tour

Laramie County Combined Communications Center
Laramie County Combined Communications Center

This post continues the information gleaned from my recent meetings with the various elected officials and county department heads.

The Combined Communications Center, a pivotal entity responsible for dispatching Laramie County's Public Safety resources, plays a crucial role in aiding residents in their time of need. In preparation for fulfilling my role as county commissioner, I had the privilege of meeting with the Center's director, Amber Young. This meeting gave me a deeper understanding of how the Board of Commissioners supports its public safety mission. Despite my previous law enforcement career, this side of the equation was truly eye-opening. The Center, between EMS, Fire, and law enforcement, dispatched over 145,000 calls for service in 2023 and handled day-to-day administrative informational calls and services. One of the most significant advancements I learned about was implementing the "Smart911" system. This system, now operational, allows the public to provide the dispatch center with personal information about home occupants, including any medical issues, animals present, and other circumstances that would aid first responders when dispatched to their residences.
